In recent years, the line between our physical and virtual realities has increasingly blurred. While the digital world brings many advantages, its rapid expansion can often feel overwhelming—not only for older generations and our parents but sometimes even for ourselves.

This realization first emerged during a partnership-building activity in Gliwice, Poland, earlier this spring. As Greta, Kristaps, Giulia, Markus, and Natalia came together to discuss their organizations’ work, they noticed a common thread: their phones were constantly distracting them, affecting both focus and productivity. What began as a casual observation quickly turned into a meaningful conversation about the need to rise above our dependence on technology and reclaim control over how we engage with the digital world.

Inspired by this discussion, they shared their thoughts with the broader group and were encouraged to take action. After diving deeper into research (outlined further in the project), they reached out to the presidents of their organizations to share their vision, propose a set of activities, and ask for support in shaping this idea into something tangible.

Although none of them had experience in designing a project from the ground up, their leaders responded with enthusiasm—offering not only their support but also connecting them with experienced youth workers who mentored them along the way. Together, they laid the foundation for what would become a youth-driven, youth-focused initiative: a Youth Exchange designed to help young people navigate and thrive in the digital age.

Our objectives are:

  1. To enhance 30 participants’ understanding of the three primary roles of media: information, education and entertainment.
  2. To help 30 participants gain at least 3 skills essential for virtual self-management: critical thinking, self-awareness and self-organisation.
  3. To help 30 participants become more confident and motivated to use media and digital platforms for their personal and professional development, through activities related to self-expression, online communication and virtual networking.
